The Maryland Community Theatre Festival Association (MCTFA) was founded as The Maryland One Act Tournament Association following the first Festival in January of 1986. The initial Board of Directors was Col. John Moser, President, Carol Leahy, Vice President, Cindy Brown, Secretary, and Scott Bloom, Treasurer.
In 1989 the Association participated in the Eastern States Regional Festival for the first time and unofficially became the State affiliate of the American Association of Community Theatre (AACT). It is unclear when the relationship became official, but the Association has participated in the ESTAFest Regional ever since.
Through many different configurations of the Board and its members over the years the Association eventually re-focused its purpose to be more in line with the rules and the spirit of AACT, becoming attuned to the idea of improving the overall quality of community theatre by providing an opportunity to learn and grow through the process of friendly and instructional adjudication in competition.
MCTFA is now officially a non-profit 501(c)3 tax-exempt corporation, and a dues paying member of ESTA and of AACT. If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to our general operating fund, we will soon have an online form for you to do so. Stay tuned.
